Boy oh boy. Appreciate those curvilicious, and waif-like bodies that glisten your eyes come swimming class . You never know how these girls make themselves hungry by lunch just so to get the imaginable flat tummy and hide the excess by not breathing or the lack thereof.
“Pahiram nga nung pang-shave!”
“Ayan, hindi ako kumain ng lunch!”
“Okay na ba swimsuit ko? Payat na ba?”
“Eh kung lagyan ko kaya ng garter yung chan ko?"
Just a few phrases that scream and govern the girl’s bathroom during lunch, when these girls have their swim class a period before dismissal time. I was seriously laughing amidst them, hurrying up to change into their swimsuits in the scorching hot – gravely small bathroom, and discussing every body part that they despise the most. Although the girls in their class who do not have ‘it’ are among their who’s whos, their not-so-flat tummy tops the discussion – no fail about that. I cannot forget one girl who told me last year that she’s already prepared for our swimming class next year (this year) because she’s already bought her new Speedos and got her toned body. To quote the girl whom I won’t name, “Hindi naman grades ang labanan next year eh, it’s the bodaay.” Of course, moments after I replied with my questioning look with a spice of detesting her thought, she said that she’s only joking. And we both laughed. Another girl from another section told me this, days after their first swimming class: “Nakakahiya nga if chubby yung body sa class namin, halos lahat kasi varsity kaya there’s the pressure to hide the fats.” Oh god. So the next time you see the girls in their Speedos and their faces that betray their thoughts for a look that they are happy with their bodies – appreciate them and show them that they are beautiful any WEIGHT they are.
P.S. And could I tell that we hate those girls who assess our practical test and tell us that we are close to getting it while our professional swimmer teacher tells us that we already got it. I mean, that’s effing bad.
