Ilustrado

I have a new book to read! Because there are just tooo many books that I'm required to buy for each class, I figured that I should drop the Carrie Diaries first and instead make room since I unfairly know that I'll be spending my own money to buy each (Yes, because I am an independent woman who can live on my own. Hahahahahaha. And because I'm sure that my mom won't give me money either since we're very much practicing the pay your own bills if you can. Oh please. I can't?). And at long last, in Literature class with Mr. Fajarito awhile ago, we've been individually required to finish reading any book. Since Sionil Jose has been on everyone's list already, I'm gripping to Syjuco's award-winning novel. It's just 288 pesos cheap, which practically works on my advantage. Yeah! (And because I, too, am a sucker for books with cute covers 'cause they practically look amazing on my shelf) What I did regret was the fact that I didn't get myself a copy when mom and I went book shopping during the Dia del Libro 2010 at the Instituto Cervantes a month ago where I could have gotten it with at least 10% off! (Yes, I'm a sucker for books on sale) I haven't read any intellectual-nosebleed literary texts recently. And this tops the list.

Funny incident: It was just my first time in Lit class awhile ago seeing how I was absent for 2 meetings. When Mr. Fajarito said that the deadline for the book list is on Monday.. and that no one can ever read the same book as to the ones which were already approved. I immediately found myself cutting off a yellow paper and submitted my book list [which isn't technically a "list"] with only 'Ilustrado by Miguel Syjuco'. When Mr. Fajarito checked my "list", his eyes went big and said in his most surprised voice, approved! This is the new book right? The award-winning? Do you have it already? (At that point, I didn't know why I suddenly blurted YES when it wasn't even on my shelf yet.)
