Journalism Class: Youngblood Ticks

Our Journalism class is with Mr. Puig. So let’s start the day by him asking this question:

“Do you read newspapers?” a question he swiftly follows with his own answer, “..of course not.”

I DO READ NEWSPAPERS, EVERY SINGLE DAY. I would like to contradict. But as I said to myself, no. It would be unprincipled since he is the HS Principal and we know that although I may not be doing something wrong, in other's eyes - I will.

We have the Philippine Daily Inquirer on our doorstep at 5am everyday, 7 DAYS A WEEK, 364 DAYS A YEAR. 364 for the reason that they don’t serve an issue once on a Holy Week. See?! I know that! And I read it, NO-FAIL, since I was 10 years old. I am an avid reader of the Opinion page, the supplements: Fitness on Tuesdays, 2BU! On Wednesdays, Cooking on Thursdays, Fashion and Beauty on Fridays, Super on Saturdays (Tim Yap discovered it), and the Sunday Lifestyle section (even before that free Suunday Magazine came out). I was always on the look-out of the works of Isagani Cruz's views, Patricia Evangelista's clueluess rebellion, Ambeth Ocampo's historic opinions, Winnie Monsod's scholastic approaches, Pam Pastor-James Gabrillo-Jenni Epperson-Juana Manahan-Tals Diaz-Bianca Consunji's views from all over. And I even made a pact to myself to write to the Youngblood before I tick 16 years of age. That pact made when I was 11 years old. So please don’t tell me that I don’t read. ‘CAUSE I DO, AND I’VE ALWAYS LOVED DOING SO. so puh-lease, don't call me ignorant. it would be so ironic saying so.

After the news that ate Karmel’s HEROES article came out on the Youngblood section of the PDI last year, YB has been on the mouths of the school. I candidly remember the day when I was on the comfort of the bathroom, having in hand the PDI, and seeing the name Karmelene Lara… St James Academy. I felt something inside and bursted and said in the highest-pitched-shrieking-manner: ‘Hey! This is a Jamer!’ :)

Big Ben (as ate Clarice would call) now made a proposal: if our work would be published in that of the Youngblood.. (drumrolls please) we would AUTOMATICALLY GET A 95 ON OUR REPORT CARD. Forget the quizzes and the likes. Without batting an eyelash., it’s 95 for us. So everybody’s like, come on let’s publish! God. This is one good deal. And I actually thought, maybe a ginormous 80% of the seniors would pass an article or so. Hm. It’s raining Jamers in the Youngblood office this time.

wow. special mention ako. haha. feeling sikat! LOL.

i wish for more jamers who read broadsheets. i remember my a-list batchmate's reaction when she heard the word "dyaryo". she said, "yuuuck!" in a very disgusted, feeling-sosy manner. by that, she made me disgusted of her.

i never knew my youngblood thingy would make such an impact. i've always just thought of it as a birthday gift to jown and a reason for me to buy ice cream that afternoon. and it's a miracle to hear puiggy give golden grades for a published article. (yeah, i know the name sounds awkward but it's always fun to say it). i know him as a person who's miserly when it comes to grades. the highest final grade he gave me is a 94, that is inclusive of additional 2 points for making it to nspc.

friendly advice: submit your article now. i submitted mine around september and it was printed in january! since you're the only jamer i know who also reads the news everyday, well i really hope you get published too. i know you can do it. ikaw pa.

Damn! I like to pass something in the PDI with Mary Clarice Gregorio as a Jamer *sighs* I guess I just have to do it as a *RAWR* Tomasino. It's still sounds good anyway. Haha

So you guys, you better do a good job! Inunahan niyo ako! Mahadera kayo! Joke. Haha. Your works published instead of mine is a great honor. A Jamer for a Jamer, is a bond-- and feels that much great.

Whatever I blab away, enjoy Journ with the Big Ben! :)
